Once considered a quite exotic fruit, nowadays they can be found everywhere as the papaya trees produce fruit year round. However it is better during November-February, just as the mango.
Papaya on Zanzibar is something else. No lime needed here as it has lots of flavours in itself. Also it accompanies many dishes- just cut up in small pieces.
And papaya is not only good for eating. If you step on a vicious (not dangerous but painful) sea urchin you use the milk that comes out from the papaya peal to extract the thorns. And it really works! For the same reason the papaya meat can be used as a cleaning face mask- pulling out the dirt of the pores.
