If you are lucky to be on Zanzibar from December to February you will experience the real taste of a pineapple. Problem is if you have eaten a ripe sweet nutty Zanzibari pineapple you do not want any other anymore. Excellent combination with coconut milk ( and maybe some rum to make a Pina Colada). Here they mostly eat it as is but can sometimes be found in food or as juice ( although the latter is a waste). We love it as it is and when in season the flavor is almost overwhelmingly intense with a hint of coconut.
